Blogging is becoming increasingly popular day by day. Everyday, lots of new blogs are created and while few are succeeding, others are failing. Majority gives up within their first 3 months, my observation has shown that one of the main reason such happens is that most people didn’t know the pros and cons of blogging before getting into the system.
I have been blogging for about 1 year now and all these while, I’ve learnt many things. Go to Facebook now and ask your friends why they are blogging and you will get so many amazing answers. Everyone blogs for a certain reason, mine might not be same as yours. Some are blogging because they want another source of income, some are blogging for fun in other words, they took it as their hobby, others are blogging just to save their data for future use in other words, they see it as their diary while others are blogging to share their experiences and to also make some friends along the way. As you can see, your own reason might be different from that of another person.
My own reason is just to share my experiences, build some solid relationships and then make money from my efforts as reward. But we all know that anything that is good also has some bad side of it. Just like there are pros and cons of every other things, there are also some pros and cons of blogging and i think its what we should all know about.
This post is for people that are about to jump into blogging, new bloggers that are just starting and also for experienced bloggers that didn’t know about it before. Lets now get to the—-
The Pros and Cons of blogging.
Pros
1.Blog is very easy to set up: Starting a blog is one of the most simplest thing I’ve ever seen. You can simply use a free blogging platform like blogger or just get a domain and hosting from Namecheap and Hostgator respectively. All you now need to do is install wordpress and your blog is up and running.
2.Its dead cheap: When i heard of registering a domain name and hosting it the first time, i thought its something that will dry my wallet, but on a closer look, i discovered that its very very cheap. I mean with as little as $20, you can register and host a new domain after that, you might decide not to buy anything again as there are lots of free tools that will do the work for you out there.
3.It can be the reason why people visits your website: Your business website is probably a static page unless you’re frequently updating it. A blog can give you an opportunity to create more awareness for your business website because you will be adding more contents steady which will be driving more readers to your blog which in turn means more customers.
4.It can be a powerful source of income: Like i said before, most people blogs because they want to make more money. Blogging can really give you more money once you do it well.
5.Build influence and relationships: Ones your blog becomes popular, it can make you a very influential person in your niche, people will get to know you more. Another reason why i love blogging is because you can also build a solid and wonderful relationship with it just as I’m doing now..Haha.
Cons
1.Easy to loose focus: One thing is starting a blog and another thing is running it. Just as its easy to start, its also very difficult to run. Most people usually thinks that where the main work is lies on starting it, but that is very lie. Its not all about building it, the main thing is in maintain it. There are so many flashy things that can make you to loose focus along the way if you don’t take time.
2.Its not easy to keep updating it: The hardest thing in blogging is in keeping it up to date. Writing is never easy and if you’re not good in it, don’t consider starting a blog unless you have the money to be outsourcing it which is also not the best. The moment you stop updating your blog, you’ll loose your readers.
3.Its not easy to make money with it: Whenever you heard someone telling you that its very easy to make money blogging, tell him its a lie because maybe he want to sell something to you. You can make money blogging quite alright, but its not as easy as most people claim.
4.Its time consuming: If your blog must succeed, you must give it enough of your time. It requires time and efforts to maintain a blog which most people don’t have.
I will leave you to answer the number 5 part of the Cons.
Now, what other Pros and Cons of blogging have i not mentioned? What is your own reason of blogging? Please share your own opinion with us in the comment section.
Please also share this post with your friends so they will also know about it.

Hey Theodore, a nice one. Ok my fifth on the list would be this
5. Many times it alienate you from the real (material) world.
Specially when a passionate newbie blogger start a blog, he is lost so deep into it that he almost forget the real world he exist in; resulting in few concerns around his life. So one needs to always keep that balance.
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Koj,
So nice to have you here again. That number 5 of yours is really correct, it has happened to many of us but just as you rightly said, we all need to keep and maintain that balance.
Thanks for leaving your own opinion with us bro.
Koj T Tajo says
So you are back with the reply bro. It feel bad learn that you were without light for two days. Not really good for a passionate Blogger like you. These days the cons side of blogging is taking toll out of me. Time has never been that short before I started blogging. Need to do good management of time, I feel.
Take care bro.
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Bro,
You’re right, not having light is even one of the cons of blogging, don’t you think so? You have to learn how to manage your time in order to fix in your blogging careear.
There is a book on time management i will send to you if you’re interested, just send me an email to ngenebiz[AT]gmail.com. I’m sure you’ll like it.
Koj T. Tajo says
I have got that book written by you theodore. Subscribed TBC and got that. lol
Theodore Nwangene says
No Koj,
Thats not the one I’m talking about. I’m not the author of it. Just shoot me a mail and i will send it to you.
Harleena Singh says
Lovely post Theodore!
You covered up all the points so well, whether of the pros or the cons. 🙂
I agree, all of us usually blog for a reason. Some people do so just to share their views with everyone, while others do to help people, or then others who just want to make money. Reasons can be many and there are many benefits too, just as you mentioned.
I too have my reasons for blogging, quite similar to yours – to help others in some way or the other by sharing my experiences and knowledge to the best of my ability. Much after that would I think of making money, because that I do from my writing projects, though my first blog was created to showcase my work – years ago, but it had just links to my writings. So, there it was a blog that helped me.
Along with the pros, come the cons too, the biggest being that blogging is a full time job and you need to put all of your efforts and be totally dedicated in your work – isn’t it? Blogging is time consuming – right from the time you write the post, to rolling it, handling the comments, sharing it on the social media etc.
You need to post your content regularly, update your blog as you mentioned, maintain it – as there are many things behind the scenes you need to do to keep it running smooth too. Also, you never can take a breather or get away for a long period of time from your blog – it’s always on your mind!! This would be my biggest con 🙂
Thanks for sharing these pros and cons of blogging with us. 🙂 Have a nice day ahead 🙂
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Harleena,
You always hit the nail by the head. Oh yes, blogging is really a full time job, i can’t agree more to that. Talking about always having your blog on your mind, it just happened to me.
I’ve not had light for about 2 days now which is why i didn’t reply to your comments on time. All these while, my blog has been in my mind. So you’re also right on that.
But anyone that can really put down all that is required can make a good blog.
Thanks for coming friend and have a fabulous weekend.
Codrut Turcanu says
hey Harleena,
I’ve seen your blog before, I like it! I’ll surely come over there and comment, as self-help is one of the few industries which resonates with me quite well…
How did you stumbled into it by the way?
Harleena Singh says
Hi Codrut,
Nice to meet you, and it would be nice to have you over. 🙂
Self-help or helping others has always been the aim of starting my blogs – so I never really stumbled into it – it just got better with time. 🙂
Thanks and have a nice day 🙂
Theodore Nwangene says
You’re truly good at it Harleena.
Keep up with the good work.
Theodore Nwangene says
You’re right Codrut,
Harleena is really good at what she is doing, you out to visit her blog bro. Thanks for coming to my blog.

Hossain says
You need to have a passion to create a successful blog. Only money making mind will never make a good content for people.
Once you get huge traffic, then money will automatically come to you…
Theodore Nwangene says
You,re right Hossain,
Thanks for stopping by and do have a lovely weekend.
Evan says
Oh yeah, loosing the focus is the hardest, i meant to get focused while writing is hard, especially when the topic is as wide as blogging, like “how to get the right blog niche”, oh God, it is hard to fit all your thoughts into 500 words max, right) (500 is a right number of words for any post according to First rule of blogging)
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Evan,
Thanks a lot for your wonderful comment, i really appreciate.
pay day loans says
Excellent article. Keep posting such kind of info on your
page. Im really impressed by your blog.
Hey there, You have done a great job. I’ll certainly digg it and in my opinion recommend to my friends. I am sure they’ll be benefited from this web
site.
Adrienne says
Hey Theodore,
I agree, there can be plenty of pros and cons to blogging for most people so you have to know why you’re doing it before you jump in. I wish more people had a better understanding of all that it takes and have that true desire to stick with it even if they aren’t yet seeing the results they had hoped for. That’s usually why most people quit. Not enough information and expecting way more.
Now for me creating a blog was easy but it took some research if you don’t know what you’re doing so I wouldn’t agree with you that it’s easy to install. I spoke with a girl yesterday that already has a blog but someone else did that for her so when I told her what was needed she started freaking out. WE know it’s easy but to people who have never done it before is a whole other ballgame.
I don’t really have another con to add because I love blogging so much I’ve done everything it takes to get to where I am. Heck, my blog was a ghost town for the first year and a half but I didn’t quit or throw in the towel. I knew this was what I was suppose to be doing so I hung in there with it until I finally learned. There are no cons to me.
~Adrienne
Theodore Nwangene says
Oooops Adrienne,
I’m happy to hear that you have no cons when it comes to blogging. O yea, i wouldn’t blame that girl at all because i also felt the same way the first time i heard such languages like cpanel, FileZilla, Fantastico and wordpress.
But i was able to challenge my fears which is why I’m here today, if i had allowed the fear to take hold of me then probably, i might not be here now. Nothing in life is easy and the earlier we get that into our skull, the better for us.
Thanks for coming Adrienne.
Hope you’re having a good time.
Sapna says
Hi Theodore,
Great share!
I was thinking this few days back how blogging is really taking too much of my time. I’ll stick to one thing that if a person is doing for passion he can keep on working but if it is for overnight money, it is better to quit now, though it is a strong statement but it is the fact.
Blogging is really a full time job, you have to be on your toes forever.I’m doing my freelancing software stuff as well so I need to pay equal attention to that work as well.
Thanks for this share.
Sapna
Theodore Nwangene says
You can say that again Sapna,
Its really a full time job and not for the lazy guys, don’t you think? We just have to know how to schedule our time so as to also attend to other things that matters.
Wow, a freelancing software? What is it about? Will like to know more about it. Keep me posted.
Thanks for coming and leaving your candid comment.
Enstine Muki says
Hey bro,
That’s a great post I’m reading this weekend. Now, while I don’t have any con to add, I want to do one thing you said – I’m off to facebook to ask that same question
Theodore Nwangene says
That will be great Enstine,
I’m also coming to answer you on facebook..Lol
Dan Black says
I think every person who has just started or is thinking about starting a blog needs to read this post!!! Under #5 I would add it takes time to grow and maintain a successful blog. I know a lot of people who do not realize how much time it really takes to produce great content on a regular basis. Great post and thoughts:)
Theodore Nwangene says
Thanks for the addition Dan,
Yea, it really takes lots of time to grow and maintain a successful blog, thats why its almost a full time job. Thanks for coming.
Dan Black says
Your welcome. It sure can be.
Theodore Nwangene says
Thanks Dan,
Oluwaseun Babajide says
You are very creative with this article. I think domain names are cheaper than you have quoted here, you can even get $1.50/year.
Blogging is stressful, most especially when you do not have any exposures to CODING or IT. Outsourcing can be very expensive; having someone to manage your backend for you is a nightmare. I found this very challenging when I first started. If you are not ready to learn the IT side of blogging, don’t bother blogging, not worth the STRESS.
Another problem with Blogging is that you have to change your personality to suit different kind of people.
“Its time consuming” – We can turn this to a strength by writing in advance, putting stuffs in calendar so we get quick alerts. etc
It is not easy to make money with it – again this comes with HARD work, and having the right audience. These days, it is about the service you can offer your readers rather than ads. The Hire page section goes a long way.
Thanks for sharing.
Seun
Theodore Nwangene says
You’ve already said it all Seun,
Blogging is really a full time b as Harleena said, we just have to try and maintain our balance. I will check out that $1.50/yr domain.
Thanks for coming bro.
Connor Harley says
Blogging is very good way to share new and important things and learning back as well. But as what everything is, things should be done moderately and in a balanced way.
Theodore Nwangene says
Welcome to my blog Connor,
You’re very correct on your definitions of blogging like i said, it mean different thing to different people. Thanks for coming.
Cyracks says
I think am guilty of one of the cons of blogging. I am currently maintaining 3 different blogs on different niche and am still planning to shoot for another niche. Perhaps am just trying to find focus and what i have passion in. It makes you grow to become an authority easily. Thanks for these post man
Theodore Nwangene says
Welcome to my blog Cyracks,
I think all you have to do in order to scale up those 3 blogs of yours is simply to outsource some of those tasks you know you cannot do that way, you will have enough time to focus on other things while your VA’s takes care of the work for you.
If you have the money, that’s the best thing to do.
Thanks for coming my friend, hope to see you here more often.
Cyracks says
Well that is exactly what am thinking too. I will just have to focus on one and hire out the rest to my siblings to manage. Thanks man
Theodore Nwangene says
That’s cool man,
Its a nice idea. Just give it a shot and please, let me know how it goes.
Thanks and happy Easter in advance.
Amal Rafeeq says

Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Amal,
Thanks a lot for that wonderful comment of yours. Really appreciate man.
Good luck too bro
Hamza says
you are right blogging is not a get quick rich scheme but you need to do a lot of work in the beginning to earn some good money. and blogging is not just writing like writers bloggers have to take care of seo, marketing etc which makes it hard then others job but when your blog becomes famous then it will earn you good money then any other offline job.
