I’m very sorry that I’ve not been very active here and on other blogs including on social medias lately, it was never intentional. Its just that I’ve been very busy these days. I just moved my site to another host and as you can see, i also changed my theme. Ok, i have another guest for you today, she has written for TBC before and when she sent me this one, i decided to allow her to lecture us today since i didn’t have the chance to write a new post. So, lets listen to what she has to say.
There are lots of benefits to having people comment on your blog, but what are the benefits of you commenting on other blogs. Furthermore, what is the point of putting a high quality comment? Commenting on blogs is time consuming, but if you have actually read the blog then it should involve little effor
One benefit it that you may be allowed to add a “Follow” link
There are some blogs that allow links to be placed in their comment section. These links are read and indexed by the search engines that will then add to the SEO value of the page it links to. This encourages a lot of spam, which is why many bloggers install a “no-follow” tag onto their comment section. If the comment section is followed, then adding a comment and a link will benefit your website.
You are more likely to have your link accepted
If your comment is of a high quality, it is more likely to remain on the comment section and more likely to have its link remain intact. It is up to the blog owner which comments stay and which are deleted. The blog owner may not like it if you make a spammy comment such as “good article” and then install a link. They are more likely to allow your link and comment to remain if it is of a high quality.

What makes a high quality comment?
You must read the blog post and come up with a lucid and well thought out comment. The nature of your comment is up to you, but it has to be related to the blog post. It should also contain no txt talk or foul language. It should be apparent that you spent time thinking about, and writing, the comment you have posted.
It is a good way to repay your commenters
People who comment on your blog may have blogs of their own. It is a good idea to repay them with a high quality comment every now and again. They are taking time to comment on your posts, so it seems only fair that you take a little bit of time and comment on theirs too.
It cannot be viewed as a spammed comment
If your comment is directly related to the blog post, its content and topic, then it is very hard to view your comment as spam. A spammed comment is one that tends to apply to all the blogs it is placed upon. You may even like to reference certain parts of the blog post in order to prove that you did not simply skim-read the post. If the blogger has a “no spam” policy, you will find that even a strict blog master will have trouble labeling your high quality comment as spam.
You may engage the readers who may follow your links
If you are able to install a link, you ideally want people to follow it to your website. Even if the link has a “no-follow” tag attached, it is not going to stop people from clicking the link and landing on your website.
If you create a high quality comment then you may even engage the other commenters. They may comment and follow your link. There may also be readers who do not comment but do follow your link to your website. You may therefore be tempted to be promotional in your comment, but be very careful and use a very light touch. Because, a blog master is probably not going to take kindly to you using his/her comment section as an advertising board.

A conversation may start that you can use to gain attention for your website
If your comment is of a high quality then it may stimulate an online discussion, through which you may drop hints about visiting your website. You may tell people about how the products on your website do or don’t do what is being discussed. Or, you could tell people that you have also written about the subject in hand on your website too.
The blog owner may try to become friends with you
This may happen if you install a high quality comment every now and again. If it happens then bring up the idea of reciprocal linking or reciprocal promoting. After all, it will benefit his/her blog as much as it does yours.
There you have it all, is there any other benefit i forgot to add? What do you think about this post? Please share with you your candid opinion on the comment section.
I will also appreciate it if you will help us spread the news by tweeting and sharing this post with your friends and loved one.

Harleena Singh says
Hi Sonia, and welcome to Theodore’s blog 🙂
Ah…benefits of blog commenting….I really didn’t know they were that many!
Speaking of myself, I love blog commenting, whether it is on my own blog or when I visit other people’s blog and comment there. Yes, it takes a chunk of my time, but I don’t think I would have it any other way. What I believe is that you should take out time to read and understand the content, and then write a meaningful comment – related to the content. And most importantly – write it from your heart.
I’ve seen many people who stop by to leave a 1 liner comment, or just a few words, or sometimes just copy paste matter from various places! And all of this is just for leaving their links. How can they even do that is what amazes me. I wish they would understand that they harm their own image and reputation like this, and might lose a few readers who see a meaningful comment and drop by your site link.
I guess I better end my comment here, or it might just turn out to be another mini post…lol..:)
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day, both of you 🙂
BTW – Congratulations on your new theme and design Theodore, your hard work is visible 🙂
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Harleena,
Yea, i think its better you stop there before you write a mini post as usual:).
I’ve also seen most of that kind of comments, people just don’t understand the main idea behind blog commenting if they do, i don’t think they will be doing it in a spammy way. It should all about building relationships but, when you left a one linar comment or just copy a comment from another source and then, paste it on my post, it will only spoil your reputation just as you said and i will have to remove it.
Thanks a lot for stopping by Leena and for liking the theme. I really appreciate the compliments:).
Do have a wonderful weekend and extend my warm regards to your family too.
Sonia Jackson says

First of all Theodore, nice-looking theme and great that your move to a new host seems to have gone smoothly.
I think you’ve covered all the points about commenting Sonia. I always try and respond to comments on my blog within a couple of days. That way you’re staying engaged with your readers.
I will always try and stop by regular commenters blogs too because that’s a great way of making connections and building a community.

Hi, Thank you. Yes, some bloggers use commenting for link-building but you’d be careful with sites and other commentators.
Siegfried says
very good points – I always try to leave a comment if site content is good! these way I increase visibility of my own blog (people are curious and always check who left them a comment) and build up my linking profile.
best regards!
Theodore Nwangene says
Thats correct Siegfried,
The more meaningful comment you leave on a blog, the more the owner notices you. Thanks for sharing your view us.
Sonia Jackson says
Glad to hear from you. Thank you
Chadrack says
Hi Sonia,
Every blogger who understands what blogging is should read your post. Though I don’t actually accept the idea of dropping links in blog comments, however, if your comment is truly of high quality and the link adds value to the comment it’s not bad. And so, I will say your points are right on target. Blog commenting is a great way of building relationships and of course driving more traffic to your blog. Thanks for sharing.
BTW. Theodore, congratulations on the new look. It’s simply great!
Theodore Nwangene says
Hey my man,
I agree with you on the issue of leaving links on your comment, i also see it as a spam. Unless and only if the comment is worth it and the link portrays more view of what you’re talking about.
I’m very happy that you also like the theme 🙂 thanks for stopping by.
Sonia Jackson says
If your comments are posted on a good and quality blog that is moderated you can get good backlinks
Adrienne says
Hey Sonia, great post and a topic that most newbies really need to read up on. I remember when I first started getting comments I was so excited. It wasn’t until many months later that I realized they were all spam. Talk about burst your bubble.
Now I know there is a lot of debate about the nofollow tag for your comments but mine are all dofollow unless the blog post that the commenter linked to really has nothing to do with my niche and it could hurt me down the road. As Matt Cutts specifically states in his videos that if you’re cautious about who you give that link juice to then you should be okay. It’s allowing spammy commenters and unworthy bloggers that link juice that can end up hurting you.
This has also been a huge debate with some “online gurus” saying that commenting is a waste of precious time. I say baloney… I love my blog readers and the comments that they share but I love more then that the relationships that I’m able to build because of it and in the long run that will benefit you more then anything else if you’re building a business. Anyone who says otherwise obviously does not know what they’re talking about.
Great share today and thanks for helping Theodore out. He’s been so busy and I love the new theme by the way. Hope the transfer went okay too.
You guys have a great weekend.
~Adrienne
Theodore Nwangene says
You’ve said it all Adrienne,
Indeed, i too value my readers a lot and will do anything to make them happy. Who says that commenting is a waste of time? I think he is mistaking. I also allows my commenters to get a do-follow link except just like you said, its a spammy link. I normally take some time to check out the links before approving the comment especially my new visitors.
O yea, I’m so happy that you like the theme Adrienne, and yes, the migration went well with the help of Bashir Ahmed.
Thanks a lot for stopping by and do enjoy your weekend.
Sonia Jackson says
I like all that you’ve mentioned. Thank you

Sergio Felix says
Hey Sonia and Theodore,
While I do have some very strict commenting rules I do not publish them on my blog because visitors can tell right away that a spammy comment is definitely not going to cut it on my site.
I am very proud to say the quality of the comments I receive is above top notch!
It took me some time to learn the non-spoken rules about commenting on other blogs but I think I finally managed to understand the whole thing so the basics for me are, read the content, add value to the post or share your experiences, make constructive criticism if you have to and keep it clean.
I always reciprocate comments, and can write comments that go even beyond the 1,000 words mark if I have to.
Normally when I get someone who tried to reply buy completely skimmed through the content, the link is deleted and if I see they didn’t even try to make a decent comment, then the comment is not even published.
That’s pretty much my whole commenting policy! 😉
Thanks Theodore for having Sonia here, I surely enjoyed reading the article and I think it’s pretty important to share this kind of information, particularly for the people just getting started with blogs.
Sergio
PS. Loving the new theme too!
Theodore Nwangene says
I’m glad you like the theme Sergio :).
I understand what you’re saying about your commenting policy and i really agree to that. This is our business and blog and i think we’re entitled to make the rules right?
Most people just don’t get the whole idea behind blog commenting. They only comments just for commenting sake, to get traffic forgetting that its all about building relationships. That is why they will never take the time to read the article before commenting.
O yes, i never approve such comments too i must, i will simply remove the link.
You’ve really shared a wonderful comment here man, thanks for coming over and do enjoy your weekend.
Also extend my warm regards to your Fiancee.
Sonia Jackson says
It’s really seldom you can find a person who comments because he wants and not for getting backlinks.
sherman smith says
Hey Sonia and Theodore, thanks for sharing this post. This shows the commenting on others blogs is basically like social media. You’re there to engage with the author and other fellow bloggers. You build a synergy and leverage each other’s growth whether you have a business or just like to blog. This is why it’s called a blogging community. We all here to work with each other and help each other out. Yes it does look good to search engines and also you’ll definitely learn a lot as well as gain a lot of traffic to your site.
To me high quality comment = engaging . What is consider to be a high quality comment will determine how the author and other readers respond to it. There definitely should be more posts like this!
Theodore Nwangene says
Welcome to my blog Smith,
I really appreciate your visit man. Yea, i agree with you that commenting on other people’s blog is just like social media because they’re all about engagement. The more you leave a good comment on the blog, the more the blogger notices you and the you become friend with him.
Thanks a lot for the visit my man, hope to see you again.
Enjoy your weekend.

You touched all the important elements of a quality blog commenting. Sometimes it is not how many paragraphs your comment create but the contents of it. Most commenters are just all praise to blog owners and it’s hard if they are legit or just want those juice.

Hi Springfield,

Hi Sonia,
Everybody hates those spammers don’t we?
Few months ago I had a few young women that were leaving reasonable enough comments, even mentioning a thing or two about my post, and for a little while I fell for that, until I finally realized that they were spammers and nothing more.
I started trashing their comments systematically and eventually they disappear, proving me that I was right.
As for me I make a point to visit ALL my visitors. I think that’s the least I can do, and from there many great relationships have been born.
Theodore Nwangene says
Hi Sylvianne,
Thanks a lot for that awesome comment of yours. I must tell you that almost all the friends i had here today were through blog commenting.

Something I recently covered in one of my articles after coming across one the best examples of how Peter Cashmore grew Mahable using some of the above mentioned strategies.
Like the article and I agree with the point the Blog author might be friends with you or at least give you an opportunity to do a guess post, if you are targeting the blog. The opportunities a limitless and one of my best experiences of blog commenting is it opens up new traffic streams and the people who comes to your blog through a comment you left tend to stay more and read your blog and even send your a mail.
Adding one of best advantages to this posts I have written “How do blog comments help SEO and increase your website traffic?

I also would like to share that we can also get a great commenting benefit. i.e we can make our online identity, A great blog commenter can make his or her online identity through his or her quality of commenting on other blogs. Harleena singh and Adrienne smith is my favorite blog commenters and I never read any useless comment by these two bloggers. They always leave a great and high quality comments.
